The town appears on the map as Groß-Breitenbach. It is located in Thuringia, south of Ilmenau.
Both Otto Krautwurst in Schaafheim and this compiler have examined microfilms
of the early Krautwurst families in this location. The books which were filmed were extremely difficult to read, and there are many discolorations in them which
make the microfilms nearly illegible. As well, the entries are terse and
make it a challenge to reconstitute families from the very brief information
in the records. The branch of the family which settled in Schaafheim apparently
left about 1645.
